Weekend Camp
23rd - 25th March 2007

This was a joint weekend away with Scouts from 1st Great Smeaton and 1st Brompton Troops as well as Explorers from the BARNES Unit.
It was a little different to the usual camp as we incorporated taking part in the World Vision 24 hour sponsored famine to raise money for their Zambia project.
After lunch on Saturday we started the 24 hours without food. The first thing we did was to think about why we were doing it.
As we read through the information and look at pictures showing how some have to live without a supply of clean water, in a state of poverty and with little to eat our facial expresions told a story of their own.
We tried making paper bags having leart how some people do it to pay for food. We managed to make only a few each in half an hour but some people have to make about seventy just to buy a pint of milk!
We played the "World trade Game" where each team had to mak ethe same things but each had differing amouts of resources to represent the differences in natural resources available in different countries.

On Sunday we put together a short presentation to show our families and freinds what we had been doing and then ended the famine with a family meal.

Our thanks go to everyone who helped with this weekend and to all those people who sponsored the event.

* The under 12 Scouts had dinner on Saturday evening and did a 12 hour fast.
