5th Redcar Summer Camp, Great Tower Windermere
20th August - 26th August 2006

Young Leaders from BARNES Explorer Scout Unit (Northallerton District) and NEWTS Unit (Redcar & Eston District) went along to 5th Redcar's Sumer Camp to help with the catering and running of activities for both the Cub Pack and the Scout Troop.

Sunday 30th July

Most of the party met at Larkswood, Redcar at lunch time ready for the coach trip to Great Tower. Ben and Charles set off earlier with a car packed full of food for the week but stopped off for lunch on Hawes!
On arrival at Great Tower, beds were allocated to the Scouts (and those Explorers who could not be bothered to pitch a tent!). The remaining Young Leaders pitched their tents.

Monday 31st July

After a wet night we got up to a nice day and after breakfast, Ben, Charles, Mark and Will headed off to the supermarket whilst the Scouts and Young Leaders started to make their Indian camp.
Everyone gutted their own fish and cooked it on a fire for lunch.
The day continued with the building of tipees etc.

Tuesday 1st August

The site minibus took us from Great tower down the road to Moor Crag for a kayak session on the lake.

Wednesday 2nd August

It was a damp rainy morning and we went out for a short walk in three Patrols. Some of the Explorer Scouts opted to carry a full pack as practice for their expedition.
When we arrived back on site we cooked lunch on Hexamine stoves.
After lunch half the Scouts and went rock climbing. The evening was spent building shelters.

Thursday 3rd August

The 24 hour challenge continues with breakfast cooked (well the eggs boiled)outside and then various scavenger hunts and badge work exercises.
Steven arrived after lunch and ran a basketball game before tea.
Then evening was spent playing volleyball with a bit of a town derby between Northallerton and Darlington! We ended the day with a camp fire and songs - many thanks to Steven!

Friday 4th August

Those Scouts who had not been rock climbing went climbing. The Explorer Scouts had a day off from Young Leadering and went to Keswick where they had a couple of hours in the leisure pool, fish and chips for lunch and time to wander round Keswick.

Saturday 5th August

Cleaned the hut and had an early lunch before set off home.
